Alzheimer’s Walk 2009

alzheimers_walk_20091031The Alzheimer’s Memory Walk and Bardo of Rose dedication occurred Saturday, October 31, 2009. Led by on Saturday. Almost 300 participants raised over $28,000, due in part to the generous help of University of Mississippi students, as well as Social Work Department students.

memory-walk-0013cThe Bardo of Rose sculpture by Roy Tamboli of Memphis was presented in honor of Dr. Jo Ann O’Quin on behalf of the Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group of Oxford. “O’Quin started the group almost 25 years ago and it is the longest continuous running monthly caregiver support group in the state and most likely in the nation.” (Oxford Eagle, Nov 2, 2009.)

The Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity generously volunteered a DJ with music and a special Step performance at the Lyceum. Also attending were Candis Varnell of the School of Applied Sciences, and student organization from Family and Consumer Sciences. Dr. Debra Moore-Shannon and Yvonne Newman, as well as gerontology students were present from Social Work.
