Dr. Durkin received his M.S.W. with a concentration in mental health in 2002 and a Ph.D. with an emphasis on gerontology in 2010 from The University of Alabama. Following his doctoral studies, Dr. Durkin completed a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the Center for Quality Aging at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 2012. From 2012 to 2019, Dr. Durkin was on faculty in the Department of Social Work at the University of West Florida (UWF). Dr. Durkin’s research has examined many issues concerned with aging: Family caregiving for older adults with dementia in the community, the male caregiving experience and assisting families with the transition to nursing home care. Dr. Durkin also earned the Distinguished Teaching Award from UWF’s Student Government Association in 2015.
