Drs. Burlaka and Lefmann Present at UM/UMMC Research Day 2016

March 3rd, 2016: Dr. Viktor Burlaka and Dr. Tess Lefmann spent the day in Jackson, MS at UMMC presenting and discussing their research.  Dr. Lefmann, assistant professor in the Dept. of Social Work, shared her research about the effects of prenatal stress and poverty on fetal growth.

Dr. Burlaka discussed the early findings from a collaborative research project between UM Dept. of Social Work, the Child Welfare Training Academy (CWTA), and the Mississippi Department of Human Services (Family and Children Services).  The project is trying to learn more about how Mississippi state child welfare workers are learning and retaining the knowledge they gain from the CWTA trainings.  In FY 2014-15, the CWTA trained 1,210 participates in the child welfare profession across the state of Mississippi.
